Student safety

Care needs boundaries, visibility, and a clear way to speak up.

SEE’s educational mission depends on responsible communication, adult involvement, and honest limits on what volunteers can provide.

Emergencies and crisis concerns

This website and its forms are not monitored as crisis services. For immediate danger, call 911. For serious safety, abuse, self-harm, or mental-health concerns, contact a trusted adult, licensed professional, emergency service, or appropriate crisis resource.

What volunteers do

SEE volunteers may serve as tutors, academic mentors, peer mentors, or student support volunteers. They are not therapists, licensed counselors, medical professionals, or crisis responders.

Approved communication

No private tutor-to-student communication should occur outside approved methods. Parent or guardian visibility, partner systems, group channels, scheduling boundaries, and recordkeeping should be defined before programs begin.

In-person and virtual settings

Programs should use approved platforms or partner locations, appropriate supervision, clear arrival and departure procedures, and role-specific boundaries. Do not imply that background checks, insurance, or formal partner approvals exist unless verified.

Report a safety concern

For a non-emergency program concern, stop the interaction if needed, tell a trusted adult, preserve relevant information, and contact SEE at connectwithsee@gmail.com. Emergency concerns should go directly to emergency services or an appropriate crisis resource.

Required pre-launch review

An adult advisor and qualified legal or safeguarding reviewer should approve consent, communication, supervision, incident response, reporting, escalation, record retention, and screening procedures before launch.
